LA RUTA MAYA CHALLENGE

Welcome to the "La Ruta Maya - Belize River Challenge" Section! This is an annual 5 day canoe race in early March - spanning the entire East to West passage of the Belize River - crossing the entire country of Belize. The Belize River begins near San Ignacio (12 miles from Guatemala) at the confluence of the Mopan and Macal Rivers.

It's a tough event and it's really no joke! We sponsor a canoe in the race every year and placed 25th out of 68 in 2000 and 15th out of 87 in 2001. Last year we took some tourists out in the race in a flat boat with a small motor as a support group and it was really a lot of fun. For those adventure-types that would be interested in this activity, we can offer a tour package with you as a participant or river observer...but this tour must be booked well in advance.

Below are some photos that we have taken of our "Killa Iguana" Crew, as well as one group of tourists that participated in the 2000 River Challenge! Simply click on the thumbnails for a more detailed view. There are some photos of the recent "Agricultural & Trade" Challenge as well. Enjoy!
